The Perfect Day in Bali!
This is our first blog post for the year and we have chosen to showcase Bali as the best example of how to keep your vacation days interesting by doing a mix of different things. Basically how to spend the perfect day in Bali. In this ongoing series we will be going in-depth into a number of new destinations and the interesting experiences one can have whilst exploring a new country.
Bali is the island that keeps on giving. Any number of days in Bali just never seems enough.
On one of my recent trips to Bali I did one of the most incredibly fun tours that anyone can do. I’ve tried to summarize my experience in a post below, hope it paints a picture.
The Sun is hanging low in the sky and we have just entered the cobbled roadway at the Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay, in my friend Brett’s refurbished and pimped VW Kombi Van. Brett is an Australian who has been living in Bali for the last 25 years. He has held every post in the travel industry and now has chosen ‘retirement’ (I use the term loosely) in Bali. He lives in Umalas with his wife and son. During the course of his travels around the island he realised that there were not enough people seeing and experiencing the real Bali, the Bali he fell in love with and stayed for. Thus was born VW Limo Bali, a venture which offers some of the most unique activities on the island coupled with the awesome experience of an old Classic car. The company bought these vans and has now refurbished them one by one to use for their trips around the island.
VW Kombi Vans!
Each VW Limo as they are called has a remote controlled mini-bar, a 10 speaker 1,000watt sound system, wifi, 12 & 220 volt power, comfortable “L” shaped lounge seating and of course air conditioning. The trip I am on is called the “Cocktail Safari
“, Brett has planned the whole day so that you hit some of the best Beach Bars
on the west and southern side of the island all with amazing ocean views. The hidden agenda in this trip is a fertility temple the team takes you too. One not many people know about and is seldom open to the public, but Brett and his team in their particular flair have access directly from the Mangku (Priest) of the temple. The temple is called little Tanah Lot and has none of the crowd and entry hassles of the actual Tanah Lot.
The Sundara Bar
Getting back to it, Brett suggests we get one of his favourite drinks at The Sundara
, The Gimlet Foxtrot, a very nice version of a traditional Gin and Tonic, the drink comes with a layer of the drink on top like an ice slushie. The Sundara is a formidable location, right on Jimbaran beach, one of the less crowded ones in Bali, it looks like it belongs. The large indoor bar area is stocked to the 9’s with some of the best liquor available in the world, the cocktails are unique to the bar. The Chef’s at the restaurant are also some of the finest in SE Asia and it shows in everything right from the service, presenation of the dish and obviously the flavours. We walked in on Executive chef Pasquo King taking pictures of their new signature cocktails, available in small, large and death!(a pitcher). Brett insists we try the vanilla Martini after about our third Gimlet while Pasquo gives us a taste of his new signature cocktail range. This is after already going to 3 other bars, La Laguna
on Canggu, The Tugu Hotel
, which offers wonderful heritage spaces, and Mozaic, a trendy eatery and bar in Seminyak. Of course the ice cold beers from the VW Limo Mini – Bar did not go astray either during our journey. We end the night with a round of drinks at the famous Ku De Ta
in Seminyak, which is an amazing location right on Seminyak beach. This iconic bar and restaurant has been in business for the last 15 years, and they keep getting better! Check out the amazing trips that we conduct with them here
. We know you will not be disappointed! Until next time!
